Description

Quality and Physical Requirements
  • Appearance: Clean, sound, free of rotting, abnormal external moisture, foreign smell, or bruising.
  • Maturity & Color: Light green to yellow coloring (60–70% maturity index) is accepted provided it meets minimum juice thresholds.
  • Juice Content: Minimum of 20% juice content conforming to international citrus guidelines.
  • Sizing & Uniformity: Consistent sizing per package; uniform variety, origin, and degree of ripeness
Packaging and Handling
  • Containers: New, clean, food-safe, well-ventilated boxes or trays strong enough to handle stacking and transport.
  • Retail Options: Cardboard trays with overwrap, net bags (500g–2kg), or flow packs.
  • Cold Chain: Pre-cooled and stored in temperature-controlled pack-houses before dispatch
Regulatory and Compliance
  • HCD License: Exporters must hold a valid Horticultural Crops Directorate (HCD) export license.
  • KEPHIS Inspection: Consignments require a Phytosanitary Certificate issued after inspection by the Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service (KEPHIS).
  • Standard Documentation: Certificate of origin, commercial invoice, packing list, and customs declarations
